George Sikharulidze was born and raised in Tbilisi, Georgia just before the collapse of the Soviet Union. At 18, he moved to the United States to pursue his studies in New York. He received a B.S. in Media Studies from New York University and an M.F.A. in Film Directing from Columbia university.
He directed four short films and developed Panopticon, his first feature project. Panopticon explores adolescent sexuality and Christian fundamentalism in the post- Soviet Georgia. The project has been developed at the Cinéfondation Residence of Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Torino Script Lab 2019 and Torino Feature Lab 2020. Apart from writing and directing, George teaches filmmaking at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
George Sikharulidze est né à Tbilissi en Géorgie juste avant la chute de l’URSS. A 18 ans, il émigre aux Etats Unis pour poursuivre ses études supérieures à New York. Il est diplômé en Média de l’Université de New York puis obtient un Master en Réalisation de l’Université de Columbia.
Il réalise quatre films courts et développe Panopticon, le projet de son premier film de long-métrage, à la Résidence de la Cinéfondation en 2018. Le projet est ensuite primé au Cinemed de Montpellier, au festival d’Arras en 2018, puis obtient le premier prix au festival d’Odessa en juillet 2019 alors qu’il participe au Torino Script Lab. Puis le projet est finalement invité au Feature Lab de Turin en 2020. George enseigne aussi la réalisation à la Tisch School of the Arts à l’université de New york.
